This is huge for Afrobeats, Grammy finally adds the Best African Music Performance category.
The Grammy’s is the benchmark for music across the globe, the award celebrates the achievements of different musicians across the globe, United States, Jamaican, Latin America, and International categories.
The Recording Academy added three new categories to the prestigious lifetime award, Best African Music Performance, Best Alternative Jazz Album, and Best Pop Dance Recording.
The Academy made this announcement on the 13th Of June, 2023 which is set to effect in the next edition which is happening in 2024.
However, different Afrobeats and African artists have been nominated for the Grammys’ names like Angelique Kidjo, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Femi Kuti, Seun Kuti, and others.
This is certainly a big win for Afrobeats and African artists, We all know the sound Afrobeats has spread across the globe, with songs like “Essence”, “Last Last”, “Calm Down”, and others songs have been on top of the global music race.
